CCTV at the British Open Golf Championship
Jul 24 2003
Vista can now reveal that the new Vista PowerDome™ and Vista Solo™ Digital Video Recorder (DVR) featured at the heart of the highly successful CCTV security system for July’s 2003 British Open Golf Championship at Royal St George’s in Sandwich, Kent. The cameras gave comprehensive coverage of all the main spectator, hospitality, and other high risk areas, linking back to duplicate on-site and off-site control rooms staffed by police operators. The installation was the first combination of the recently released Vista PowerDome™ and Vista Solo™ DVR in a single installation, and the ease of assembly and inter-operability of the products was an essential contribution to this important security operation.
The six PowerDome cameras were deployed to cover totally a carefully drawn-up map of the key risk areas, using both the valuable pre-set feature and PTZ control. Time-lapse recording was undertaken throughout on a 320GB Columbus Triplex™ DVR, and in each control room a Vista Solo™ DVR was used for full real-time recording whenever the operators decided this was required.
Chris Broughton, Sales Director of the scheme’s installer Wright Fire and Security plc, explained:
"The requirement to install a CCTV system with 6 hard wired cameras and 2 control rooms against a tight timescale in an area with no existing power or cabling was clearly a challenge. We decided from the outset to use the new Vista products both because they are industry leaders in their own right in terms of functionality, and their ease of installation and inter-operability was an important factor in our time-critical project".
Mark Pritchard, Divisional Director of Vista at Norbain SD Ltd, said:
"We are very pleased that the installation and the security operation went off without a hitch and ensured that the system fulfilled the operational requirement throughout the championship. The reports from the control rooms confirm that the total Vista system gave the picture quality, camera control, recording flexibility, and ease of use this demanding event required. We are very confident that these new products, the PowerDome and the Vista Solo™ DVR - the first truly viable VCR replacement available – will quickly become industry standards."
