Entertainment : From Vista with Love Vista cameras on set for the latest James Bond film ‘Die Another Day’
Whether you love or loath 007, Die Another Day – the 20th Bond film – is set to prove that there is plenty of scope left in the age-old storyline of good versus evil.
Eon Productions/Danjaq, LLC, owned by the Broccoli family, has produced all twenty James Bond films since 1962. Although the storyline might seem familiar, the action sequences, locations and technology must be amongst the most dramatic, daring and advanced to date. Filming ranges from inside the Eden Project in Cornwall to the barren landscapes of Iceland (for which James Bond’s Aston Martin was laboriously converted to 4-wheel drive). There is even a parachute drop over Buckingham Palace where staff accommodated the film crew by raising the Union Jack three hours early at 5am. Starring Pierce Brosnan in his fourth appearance as 007, alongside Halle Berry, Toby Stephens, Rosmund Pike and Rick Yune. The film also features Madonna in a cameo appearance as well as performing the title song that she also composed.
Keen film buffs may also spot Vista’s contribution. Being selected to feature in the shooting of the latest James Bond blockbuster must count as the ultimate compliment says Mark Pritchard, Divisional Director of Vista:
"We were delighted to provide our products and services to EON Productions and this legendary film series, particularly with the constant focus on innovative technology that runs concurrently through Bond titles"
The CCTV specification for the film focused on the need to provide equipment in keeping with the set design. As the stills from the film illustrate so vividly, the ability to withstand a tough and demanding operational environment is proven once and for all! Vista supplied 12 Pan/Tilt and Zoom units in all, which consisted of Vista VCMHF housings and Vista VPT pan and tilt units. One of the housings was fitted with a Protos 3 camera and Vista Zoom lens, and supplied with a telemetry joystick giving it the ability to move.
The units were built by Norbain’s pre-build department within the demanding time-scale set out by Eon Productions. They were built to the same high standards as any equipment going to a permanent installation – just requiring the set design team to bolt them onto the towers.
‘Die Another Day’, produced by Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli is scheduled for general release by MGM and Twentieth Century Fox on 22 November 2002.
